Austin FeLo has a radio show!
"I'll always have something cooking, and try to keep it tasty!"
Ruby Dee PhilppaGreat news from our Featured Local Ruby Dee Philippa! As you might remember, Ruby is the author of Ruby’s Juke Joint Americana Cookbook, hosts her radio show called Ruby’s Kitchen Radio Show on Saturdays 5pm-5:30pm CT. The show airs on over 800 stations worldwide via internet and satellite radio through the Internet Voices Radio Network, and is archived on her website.
On her show, Ruby talks about what’s freshest and best locally and seasonally, as well as cover topics near and dear to her heart: live music, locally raised foods and drinks, and all things Americana. One only has to read Ruby’s blog by the same name as her soon-to-be-aired weekly show, and you get the idea right away what her taste- and tastebuds- are all about. Homegrown, a little bit humble, and a heck of a lot of fun, just like good times and a fine meal with friends on the back porch.
Every week, Ruby covers new ground, discussing ingredients that intrigue her palate - their history, what makes them so unique, and a recipe including the topic at hand.
She throws in a little music to pass the time - songs by some of her friends and folks she admires from her years on the road as a Grammy-nominated musician. She also interviews local farmers, brewers, musicians, and anyone who strikes her fancy as someone she'd want to invite into her kitchen.
Ruby’s Kitchen Radio Show is a great follow up to Ruby’s recent release: Ruby’s Juke Joint Americana Cookbook. She wrote the cookbook as cognitive therapy after a devastating scooter accident four years ago left her with a brain injury that caused vertigo, trouble speaking, and memory loss, which hindered her ability to recall words.
Even the show’s sponsors reflect Ruby’s approach towards food, cooking, libations, dining with friends and family, all things local and of course, all things Americana. Ruby wanted only Texas owned and operated businesses to represent the show, and she couldn’t have found two better sponsors. One is Texas Hatters from Lockhart Texas - these are the folks who make the hats worn by Texas Rangers as well as many famous hats worn by many a famous local Texan. Owned and operated for over eighty years by the same family, Texas Hatters was Ruby’s first choice.
Second is Treaty Oak Distillers, Texas' first and only distillery to both brew and distill their spirits, resulting in the superb Treaty Oak Platinum Rum, hand-crafted in Austin Texas, using all-Texas ingredients. Both sponsors look forward to what Ruby has to bring to the table.
"I look forward to having folks join me in my kitchen every week," adds Ruby. "I'll always have something cooking, and try to keep it tasty!"
